Men!

Men just don’t understand, but we can’t live without them and if we’re honest with ourselves, we wouldn’t want to, right? What am I talking about?
Recently, I lost the diamond from my engagement ring. Every woman whose ever been in love and has received one knows how special the ring is. It symbolizes the love he feels for you. When you lose you DH, as I did several years ago, the meaning of that ring amplifies by tens of thousands. It’s the remaining physical reminder of his love.

When I realized I lost my diamond, my brother and son immediately answered my call for help to check the drains in the house. When we didn’t find it, I was heartbroken and reduced to tears. My brother immediately said, “Don’t worry. I’ll buy you one twice as big.” More tears came. While I appreciated his gesture to make me feel better, I fell deeper into depression because no one in my house (all guys) understood what I was feeling. Or at least that is what I thought, until I posted on Facebook. I never mentioned anything on social media about my DH’s fight with cancer or when I lost him. In fact, I hadn’t posted anything for more than six months afterwards, notta, nothing. After this experience I feel maybe I was wrong not to, because the overwhelming emotional support from my followers has been tremendous. Maybe I wouldn’t have spent a year fighting depression if I’d opened up.

While trying to work on my next hero, this experience reminded that men do think, act and express their emotions differently. They look at the world as if it’s black and white instead of through shades of gray. They express themselves differently, sometimes through jokes, or not at all. Their hearts are encased in armor while we carry ours exposed to all. They talk differently. If you’d want to read a great blog on this topic, look at Ruby Rita Henuber’s blog GUY SPEAK http://www.rubyslipperedsisterhood.com/guy-speak-2/. She nails the subject.

I’m going to keep in mind the reactions I’m getting from men over my lost while I work sketch out my next hero. Do you have any examples of a good-hearted man just being a guy?

FYI: It's day 5 of my great diamond search and still no luck, but I'm not going to lose hope.

What Do Writers Like To Do On Their Day Off?

First, I will say I don’t think any writer takes a day off completely. We have characters in our heads that never take a day off, or if they do, another one takes over the chatting. It’s like a senate filibuster taking place in the space between our ears and the only way to get them to shhh is to acknowledge them and give them your attention. I usually ask them questions they have to pondered like, “Why the h*ll would you kill off nice, old Mrs. Petty?” And “How did the rope used to kill her end up the copy of Hitchcock’s novel Rope and does it have a meaning?” They need to have a damn good reason for their actions before talking to me again.

While they ponder, my writer’s cap if off. So, what do I do with myself? My life is similar to yours. Today, I’m off of my day job also-- you know the one that brings in the small but steady paycheck-- I’ve got a long chore list: laundry, a bit of cleaning, grocery shopping with my elderly mother in addition family care and interaction.
I started my day by taking care of me. I took a short walk in the early morning dew/rainy. It really was misty and took this shot of some of my Irises. I love gardening and if all goes well today, I’ll be planting more flowers and some veggies late this afternoon. Then, comes the time I’m praying isn’t stolen from me. Time to grab a cup of tea, put my feet up, and enjoy the book I’m reading now, Gone Girl. Yes, I know it’s been out for years.

So, what are you doing today? What are you enjoying reading? I’m always looking for a good book.

NEW RELEASE

Releases MAY 8, 2018
PREORDER NOW!

Thank you to all of the readers who continue to follow me here. It seems blogging has taken a backseat to social media, but I still like to read my favorite authors' posts.

I'm really excited to announce the up-coming release of my next book, Loved By Darkness. Loved By Darkness is the third stand-alone novel in my U.S. Marshal series C.U.F.F. Both my editor and a first reviewer has told me that this is the best story I've written. They feel it's an award-winner. I hope it wins your heart and that you will chat it up at work and social media.

Let me tell you a little about it. Many people ask where do you get your ideas. This one came to me while I was on vacation in St. Augustine visiting follow Ruby sister Rita Henuber two years. I'd over heard a conversation about a missing child and while we sat on the white sands watching the waves the opening of the story unfolded in my mind. As all stories tend to do, it changed as months went by. Why? Because of the characters. To the non-writer that might seem like a crazy notion, but they really do come to life in our minds and eventually they tell us what needs to happen next. Seriously, I'm not crazy. Just ask any writer.

Why did it take me two years? One reason was I was writing Perfect Fall for my Perfect Love Series. I'm not a writer who can be writing two novels at once. My characters demand my full attention. And second, a lot of research went into this story. I learned about sailing, how to stop a plane from taking off. I learned about psychological disorders, police procedurals involving the U.S, Marshals and much more. I don't want to tell you what because of spoilers. And finally, because I wanted this book to be the best I've ever done.

Loved By Darkness is up for pre-order at Amazon, B&N, I-Books and Kobo. Below are the links, if you'd prefer to copy and paste.
